Kara Frans Photography bio picture
  • Welcome

For me, when I see a photograph, I want it to take me back to that exact moment, where I can see everything, hear the sounds and voices of the people around that millisecond of time. A photograph should be timeless and classic, yet evoke the feeling of looking into someone's history at that particular moment...

I am a photographer. I am passionate. I am kind (sometimes to a fault). I am a wife, mother and sister. I like to believe that mankind is generally good. And, I am actually surprised when they are not. I am a traveller. I am from Chicago, Phoenix and Tucson...and now reside in Los Angeles. I have amazing friends and a sister who always believes in me. I am optimistic. And just about always happy.

When I photograph, it is how I see you through my lens: your fabulous wedding filled with all of your family and friends. Or your amazing family portrait that finally includes you in it...

Since my degree is in journalism and photography, I am a natural storyteller. I want to show, and share with you, your complete story. Whether I'm with you for your entire wedding day, or an afternoon at your local park with your family, I want to capture you exactly how you are.

  • The Keller Family

Can I just say that I love this family?  Not only they are some of the nicest people that I’ve ever met but they are also so happy, which makes me so incredibly happy!  I love watching these girls grow – they are a few weeks older then my own daughter and I’ve had the pleasure of photographing them since they were pretty small.    Here’s a small world story:  Day is my sister’s really good friend (both are in Phoenix) while Day’s youngest sister and I used to work together here in Los Angeles.  How cool is that?  Enjoy the photos and thank you for such an amazing session!

    The MacBan Children

Oh my gosh – I just love photographing this family!  And, even though the parents weren’t really in any of the images, belive me, they are just as gorgeous as the kids.   Of course I didn’t show you the silly side of C. – he is such a ham in front of the camera but we did get some great images of some natural smiles and giggles.  Thank you for such a great session!

    The Gibbons Family

Wow!  I recently photographed this wonderful family when I was in Phoenix in early November and they are so fabulous!  Todd and Carla – K. and J. are so sweet and I just loved hanging out with your family that morning!  We had such a great time watching the kids climbing the trees and just exploring – loved it!  Thanks for a wonderful session!

    Julia, Kevin and C.

Oh my gosh – I love seeing C. grow up!  I’ve been so lucky to photograph for Julia and Kevin since the adoption of C. and all the sessions have been such fun – from C. standing on the grass for the first time to running around just trying to keep up with him.  And, for all of you Michigan State fans out there – check out C throwing that football!  Watch out class of 2024!  Thanks for such a fun session – I just loved it!

    The Brodar Family

I was so excited to be able to photograph Jen, Franc, A. and E. earlier this month literally on their way to the airport for a Hawaiian getaway.  It seems like yesterday that I was at their beautiful wedding in one of my favorite places, The Arizona Inn in Tucson.  They have two gorgeous kids now with a third on the way and our session was nothing short of a great time spent together.  Thanks for such a wonderful session!!

    Jen, Jason and beautiful S.

Jen, Jason and baby S. are part of my newest clients in Phoenix and they were a such a dream to work with.  Our session was so fun and I just loved running and running after S. towards the end.  I swear, she would not stop! :)   Just smiling and running – that’s the way a session should be.  Enjoy!

    Jada and B.

Early November brought me back to Phoenix, my hometown since 5th grade, to photograph all my wonderful clients.  I photographed 8 sessions that weekend, each unique and so special that I want to shout from the rooftops at all the gorgeous babies.  Take a look at the ever fabulous Jada and her son, B:  even though two years old is a hard age for everyone (really mostly for us parents) but Jada makes two look like a piece of cake.  Thank you Jada and B for such a fun session!

    My fabulous friend

My wonderful friend, Etel and her family came out to have a mini-session at the park yesterday for both some kid pics plus some fun holiday portraits.   These are just a quick sneak peek at some of our session.  We had a lot of fun and I just love photographing Z and D – they are such great kids and I love watching them grow.  This is our second year in doing these sessions and Etel has inspired me by making these fabulous little books for the grandparents each year at holiday time.  I’m always so flattered that my images are always included!  Thank you Etel!  And, for those of you that don’t know, Etel is the founder and owner of SignShine – a wonderful baby and toddler program of classes on signing to your baby.  Check out http://www.signshine.com for more information.

    A Faery Hunt

I’ve been meaning to get to this little gem of a place for quite some time but my daughter was too young when I first heard of it.  It’s a cute little interactive children’s march through the forest to find faeries – the faeries are played by some adults and kids with a storyline.  All the kids dressed up in costumes – some adults, too.  We went to their location just near Simi Valley in Corriganville.  We brought a picnic lunch for after the show, then wandered around the forest ourselves, taking pictures and Ava collecting rocks and leaves.  http://www.afaeryhunt.com
