Kara Frans Photography bio picture
  • For me, when I see a photograph, I want it to take me back to that exact moment, where I can see everything, hear the sounds and voices of the people around that millisecond of time. A photograph should be timeless and classic, yet evoke the feeling of looking into someone's history at that particular moment...

I am a photographer. I am passionate. I am kind (sometimes to a fault). I am a wife, mother and sister. I like to believe that mankind is generally good. And, I am actually surprised when they are not. I am a traveller. I am from Chicago, Phoenix and Tucson...and now reside in Los Angeles. I have amazing friends and a sister who always believes in me. I am optimistic. And just about always happy.

When I photograph, it is how I see you through my lens: your fabulous wedding filled with all of your family and friends. Or your amazing family portrait that finally includes you in it...

Since my degree is in journalism and photography, I am a natural storyteller. I want to show, and share with you, your complete story. Whether I'm with you for your entire wedding day, or an afternoon at your local park with your family, I want to capture you exactly how you are.

I met Kristen and Michael some time ago and right away, knew I was going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this wedding.   Not only are they a super sweet couple, Kristen did such an amazing job at all the details for their ceremony and reception.  Kristen’s attention to detail came out in this kitchen chic theme as a tribute to Michael,  a fantastic chef.  Every detail was such a feast for my photographers’ eye.

The day started with Kristen getting ready at the Belamar Hotel on Sepulveda in Manhattan Beach.  They did a first look at the hotel with family portrait time before heading over to a beautiful intimate ceremony at Library Park in El Segundo.  Their reception consisted of a gorgeous sit down dinner at the Tin Roof Bistro, which was held in a wonderful room just off the courtyard.  The details at the reception were some of the best things to photograph:  a fabulous dessert bar with Krispy Kreme donuts and cupcakes from Hot Cakes Bakes in Culver City.  Her favorite book, Pride and Prejudice, had pages strung together like flags decorating the windows.  Each table consisted of a beautiful hand made sign with a table number that was important to them as a couple, such as Table 4, which was the date in October that they had their first date.  The reply cards were fill in the blank cards which were funny and heartfelt to read.  The favors consisted of their guests that sent in recipes and were then distributed back out for everyone to enjoy.   Kristen’s dad even brought a little bit of Colorado with him by making the bark candle tea light holders for each table.  Just beautiful!

It was such an honor to be part of their special day – thank you, Kristen and Michael and congratulations!

I’m not really sure where the last year plus went but I’m sure I was busy, right?  Doesn’t everyone say that?  I’m sure I was busy taking my first grader to school, volunteering at every chance I got and still juggling everything under the sun.

Fast forward to today, as I just got off the phone with Media Temple, my fabulous hosting company.  Apparently, my site was getting old and no longer supporting some php something-or-other so when they couldn’t fix it, I just turned it off and re-directed my site here for the time being.  Of course, that puts a fire under my ass to get this blog going as well as put a new site together or just use this one as a blogsite, which I’m not quite sure about.  AND, that still leaves my new commercial food photography site, hanging out there as I’m not sure where to put that.  It’s own domain?  Put it with karafrans.com and have the client pick what they want to see?  Decisions, decisions.

Meanwhile, I’m editing some absolutely delicious baked goods from the amazing Clemence at the Gourmandise School that I photographed last Friday.  Now that I’m back to blogging, I’ll happily share them with you in just a bit!

Thanks for reading!

I was so fortunate to photograph this awesome family right before it started getting super hot in Phoenix back in May.  This family is so photogenic and the kids were so much fun!  We were able to get some fantastic images: kids by themselves, with their parents and of them being together.  I had such a great time with all of them –  thank you Fox Family for  a wonderful session!

I had the pleasure of photographing this fabulous baby shower a few weeks ago for Marcy and her soon to be baby Laila.  Marcy just happened to stop in our new studio in the CopperWillow Paper Studio on Washington Blvd here in Culver City – she randomly took my card needing a photographer and voila!  I’m so glad to have met Marcy and her friends – I feel like I just fit right in with them!  And, don’t even get me started on the best tamales I’ve eaten in a long time – Marcy’s mom made them and, as a self-proclaimed tamale expert,  they were out of this world.  YUM!  The shower had all of Marcy’s wonderful friends from high-school, college and beyond.  Plus, her adoring aunts, mom, mother-in-law and cousins are all looking forward to early July when baby Laila is coming out.  I can’t even wait to meet her!  Thank you Marcy, for such a fab shower!

Carly and Matt are one of the cutest couples I have photographed in a long time.  Their wedding was in the fall of 2008, at the Arizona Grand Resort – it was absolutely beautiful and so much fun.  I wanted to show off their fabulous album by Couture Book.  It’s from one of their modern lines, the New York, and it’s sleek with an outside hard case.   Gorgeous!  Congrats Carly and Matt!
